چکیده

We present recent results of our program of deep optical and infrared observations of AXPs. We find that the counterpart to AXP 4U 0142+61 has a peculiar spectral energy distribution. The counterpart is remarkably bright in the near-infrared, but is not detected in the B band. We also present the possible detection of a second AXP counterpart, namely that to 1E 2259+586.

Anomalous X-ray pulsars: Persistent States with Fallback Disks

The anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 was recently detected in the mid infrared bands with the SPITZER Observatory (Wang, Chakrabarty & Kaplan 2006). This observation is the first instance for a disk around an AXP. From a reanalysis of optical and infrared data, we show that the observations indicate that the disk is likely to be an active disk rather than a passive dust disk beyond the light c...

Optical and Infrared Observations of Anomalous X-ray Pulsars

The detection of optical/infrared counterparts to Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) has greatly increased our understanding of these systems. Models for the AXP phenomenon were based upon their X-ray emission, and all but the magnetar model made predictions for the optical/infrared that have now been falsified. With detections in hand, detailed studies of the optical/infrared to X-ray flux ratios,...

Optical and Infrared Emission from the Anomalous X-ray Pulsars and Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters

We show that the irradiated accretion disk model can account for all the optical and infrared observations of the anomalous X-ray pulsars in the persistent state. While placing an upper limit on the inner disk radii, and thus on the strength of the dipole component of the stellar magnetic field, the model fits do not constrain the outer disk radii. And while magnetar fields ( G) in higher multi...

Optical/infrared Observations of the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 1e 1048.1−5937 during Its 2007 X-ray Flare

We report on optical and infrared observations of the anomalous X-ray pulsar (AXP) 1E 1048.1−5937, made during its ongoing X-ray flare which started in 2007 March. We detected the source in the optical I and near-infraredKs bands in two ground-based observations and obtained deep flux upper limits from four observations, including one with the Spitzer Space Telescope at 4.5 and 8.0 μm. The dete...

The Near-infrared Counterpart to the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 1e 1048.1−5937

We report our discovery of the likely near-infrared counterpart to the anomalous X-ray pulsar (AXP) 1E 1048.1−5937, using observations from the 6.5 m Baade (Magellan I) telescope in Chile. We derived a precise position for the X-ray source using archival data from the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. Since this position is inconsistent with a position reported earlier from XMM-Newton, we conservative...
